Basic Tree Info |
Evergreen trees keep their needles and
color all year, although most drop needles in the fall that
will have to be raked up. It is a good idea to plant
evergreens on the north side of your house, as they will
protect your home from the winter wind.
Broadleaf trees should be planted on the south side of the
house to protect you from the sun in the summer, but let it
warm your home in the winter when the leaves are gone.
A quick note about planting trees. People tend to plant them
closer together than they should be. Try to visualize a
mature tree and allow space for it to grow. Planting them
too close together will only stunt their growth. Don’t be
afraid to use a mix of different trees and shrubs for a more
interesting effect.
